Fathers to spearhead the fight against HIV and Malaria

Body:
The Deputy RDC Arua, Denis JAWOKO has asked the health workers to fully involve the male gender in the fight against HIV and Malaria. This happened today, the 25th March 2025 at the district boardroom while addressing the District Health team, Min. of health and Infectious Disease Institute (IDI) who had attended a two days training on the roll out of malaria immunization program in the district. Jawoko said involving the male gender will combat HIV and Malaria as it will demand for a concerted effort from all other stakeholders. He noted that saying, women are most times left with the children from pregnancy to birth and attending to all the immunization schedules. “The health workers should take the contacts of the fathers in their database so that they can do a follow up of the clients of both HIV and malaria. This will improve male involvement and am sure there will be reduced cases of malaria and new HIV infection rates”, added Jawoko. He further discouraged negative elements that discouraged people from embracing these government programs that are for the good of the nation. Jawoko added that such wrong elements that are misinforming the community will be dealt with mercilessly by the law. This strong communication came as a result of the data by IDI of Arua having its 95-95-95 cascade for HIV by 2030 standing at 56% of the people living with HIV know their HIV status; posing a health threat. This sounded a heavy gong in the ears of the entire sitting, wondering the whereabouts of the 44% and what-abouts of their contacts, as there is a suggestion for traceability of these contacts. The HIV foal point person, Ms. Adroru Rebekah recommended that there should be accreditation and roll out of HIV care and treatment to Ayayia Health Center (H/C), Lazebu H/C, Anyavu and Kauanzeti H/C, functionalize HIV committees at all levels in the district, scale up community sensitization, and financial inclusion of PLHIV into programs such as SACCO groups, and implementation of the 0.1% for HIV mainstreaming. Adroru showed concerns about interruption in USAID funding due to executive orders by the Trump administration, which has affected HIV services in various facilities and community programs, calling for a sustainability plan by the district. The CAO, Mr. Nicholas Ogwang however comforted the whole room by saying that he had asked all departments to contribute some money to support the fight against HIV. On the other hand, Min. of Health is rolling out the malaria immunization program across the entire country in 4 dozes of; 6 months, 7 months, 8 months and 18 months. The CAO, Mr. Nicholas Ogwang thanked the ministry of Health for always coming up with interventions that create a healthy population, which then translates to be productive for the positive socio-economic transformation of the country. “Firstly, government introduced mosquito nets, asked us to slash off bushes, then introduced the Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS), and now the immunization program. I therefore urge every body to embrace this program for the good of all”, added Ogwang. The secretary Social Services, Hon. Candini Luiji said he got good reports that malaria cases have drastically reduced in Arua District and he strongly warned propagandists from sabotaging government programs.
