Body:
The Ambassador of Sweden to Uganda, H.E Maria Hakansson, together with the Swedish Minister of International Development and foreign trade, Hon. Benjamin Dousa on 19th March 2025 visited Arua District to check the progress of works implemented by funding from their government through NGOs in Arua District. One of the projects is the World Food Program (WFP) Child Sensitive Social Protection (CSSP) that was contracted to Save the Children helped improve nutrition and skilling to teenage mothers. Another of the programs is the baraza meetings, capacity building and stakeholder engagement activities, being implemented by CEFORD and other PACER implementing partners, aimed at strengthening civic engagement and participation. Hon. Alfred Okuonzi the district chairman commended the diplomatic bodies for the fruitful partnership with the district and asked them to additionally support the district in further development since it had been disadvantaged by the removal of other 12 local governments from it including the City; leaving a huge vacuum of; revenue, social services, infrastructure and economic development.Through the good diplomatic relations Arua District has established with other international bodies, ambassadors from 10 European Union states of Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Ireland, France, Poland, Belgium, Finland, Italy, Romania will be visiting the district for more engagements on development and expanding their scope of operation not only limited to the capital city, Kampala, but to other parts of Uganda as well. Many of these up-and-coming projects will be targeting special interest groups of the youth, women, persons with disability, the elderly in issues of good governance, mindset change and economic enhancement of the locals of the district, which is boosting the economy of Arua District and improving livelihood. This strategic partnership not only promotes the hospitality in Arua District but speaks volumes about the good relationship between these diplomatic corps and the government of Uganda. This is possible by Uganda’s Diplomatic policy that is guided by its commitment to regional stability, economic development and international cooperation; which has been further shaped by historical influences, regional dynamics, and global trends. The ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda is focusing on Regional and International peace and security; regional Integration and International cooperation; and trade, tourism and resource mobilization. By:Diana AyikoruCommunication OfficerArua District Local Government
